Tulane University, formally known as Tulane University of Louisiana, is a private research university located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1834 as the Medical College of Louisiana, it was later reorganized into the public University of Louisiana in 1847. In 1884, the university was privatized and named Tulane University, in honor of its benefactor, Paul Tulane.
